Watch the video for a little intro to the basic tips and tricks you need to make your wedding dance feel comfy, romantic and fun. Read on for more…
A couple of things to remember…
Set aside an hour together for your first practice. It will feel a little overwhelming to learn 2+ minutes of choreography the first time you try. Once you’ve had a few date nights practicing together, it will feel second nature. And it will go so fast on the day!
Remember you have each other to talk to the whole time (everyone will think you’re bonding but you’re actually saying, “don’t step on my feet!”). This also makes for some super cute photos of the two of you talking and laughing together.
Don’t worry about lefts and rights. Learning off a video can make this tricky so just do whichever way feels most comfortable. We tend to use phrase like “inside leg” or “the hand that’s in front” so that you can use which ever one feels comfy. The wonderful thing about this style of wedding dancing is it’s super adaptable and we’re always coming back together to reset so it never gets too out of hand or tangled.
You will be the only people at your wedding who know the choreography. No one will know if you get something “wrong”. Really we are just giving you a bunch of steps and tools that you can use to dance together comfortably. If you forget something, or something goes slightly sideways, just continue dancing together with what you know from these videos!
If your dress has a full skirt or long train, wrap a sheet or doona around your waist to practice in! This will mimic the size and fullness of a wedding dress and help you get used to moving in it.
Try to relax and enjoy it because it really is just about having this special moment together.
